The Division: Hexagon Autonomous Solution comprises of three divisions: Agriculture, Autonomy & Positioning and Mining – Providing a breadth of perception, positioning, vehicle autonomy and site orchestration technologies to enable the full autonomous solutions for the agriculture, mining, automotive and marine sectors.
The Project: Hexagon has partnered with our mining client to develop an autonomous haulage solution for a will deploy and operate a world-first fleet of 120 fully Autonomous Road Trains to carry ore 150km to the Port. The solution, which includes drive-by-wire technology and an autonomous management system, is a truck-agnostic, full-site solution designed to streamline vehicle movement in road-train haulage.

The Position; Reporting to the SVP of the Program and Autonomous Road Train BU, we are looking for a Chief Engineer serves as the technical leader for assigned programs, with full authority and accountability for approving product requirements and designs, and directing technical delivery priorities across all engineering disciplines. Your role will be ensuring that system-level performance, safety, quality, cost, and schedule objectives of the product to be delivered are met. Theposition is the projects Technical Authority for the product throughout its lifecycle and acts as the primary technical voice to the customer, ensuring clear communication of design justifications, risks, and tradeoffs.
In addition but not limited to you will be responsible for the following;
Approve system-level technical requirements and performance targets in order to ensure customer satisfaction, proposing change to design teams as needed.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company engineering policies
Translate program objectives into engineering priorities and direct functional teams accordingly.
Prioritize allocation of engineering resources across disciplines in alignment with technical risk and program needs.
Act as the lead technical representative to the customer, clearly articulating design decisions, tradeoffs, and risk mitigations.
Partner with Program Management to ensure consistent, transparent communication of technical status to both internal and external stakeholders.
About you
We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager with technical expertise in autonomous driving systems or mining autonomous haulage systems, from technical product development through to successful on field deployment of large scale projects. In addition your ability to lead multi functional projects/programs in technology deployment of agnostic integrated systems, will see you lead this project twith a balance of technical expertise, project management infleuncing and people leadership to build successful relations and solutions that focus on productivity and effective problem solving.
Background Qualifications & Experienced required;
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or Aerospace Engineering (PhD preferred for some industries).
· 12+ years of engineering experience with significant exposure to system integration and cross-discipline design.
· Proven track record of technical leadership on complex, multi-disciplinary products, including full product life cycle from concept to customer adoption
· Strong knowledge of systems engineering, safety critical systems, requirements management, and validation methods.
· Deep technical experience with autonomous driving systems and/or mining equipment products is required.
· Experience in deploying automation technology into a large scale production process is highly preferred, including compliance with safety regulations.
· Demonstrated ability to balance technical, cost, risk, and schedule tradeoffs.
· Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present technical justifications, tradeoffs, and risk mitigations directly to customers and non-technical stakeholders.
· Experience leading customer-facing technical reviews and supporting product delivery discussions.
