Hexagon Autonomous Solution comprises of three divisions: Agriculture, Autonomy & Positioning and Mining – Providing a breadth of perception, positioning, vehicle autonomy and site orchestration technologies to enable the full autonomous solutions for the agriculture, mining, automotive and marine sectors. 

 

The Project: Hexagon has partnered with our mining client to develop an autonomous haulage solution for a will deploy and operate a world-first fleet of 120 fully Autonomous Road Trains to carry ore 150km to the Port.  The solution, which includes drive-by-wire technology and an autonomous management system, is a truck-agnostic, full-site solution designed to streamline vehicle movement in road-train haulage. 

 

Responsibilities

The Position: Reporting to the Manager, Principal Localization Engineer, as Senior Autonomy Application Engineer you will be part of a global project team based across USCA, South America & Australia. You will work closely with varied teams across the project structure. 

 

As part of Hexagon Autonomous Systems Team, your role will be key in delivering advance localization and perception systems that empower our customers to unlock the full potential of their autonomous vehicle fleet.

 

Your responsibilities will include but not limited to;

  • Assist with integration of localization and perception applications and sensors into our proprietary autonomy stack
  • Perform on-vehicle software/hardware integration, debugging, and troubleshooting
  • Test the latest application releases to ensure they function correctly and meet quality standards
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams, helping to resolve any issues or bugs that arise with localization and perception technologies.
  • Develop & contribute to internal documentation, project procedures, process and training material

This role is based in Perth, Wangara however may require adhoc trips to site/local AARP site based in Neerabup north of Perth. It may require attendance on meeting within global time zones, there we have a flexible working arrangement.

Qualifications

About you 

 

We are looking for an experienced Software or Application or Systems Engineer with V&V experience of fully integrated autonomous systems for industrial or automotive application. This opportunity will suit those who are keen to take their expertise & join us on an industry defining project – be a part of a project that will lead advanced autonomous technology into a new area of advancing mining operations.   In addition, we are seeking those with the following qualifications and skills;

 

Technical

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in software/computer systems, Computer science or relative engineering discipline
  • Prior experience, hands on in various localization and/or perception technologies & sensors
  • Prior exposure to Linux/Unix operating systems and scripting
  • Strong logical and analytical skills
  • Experienced in project start up/development stages skilled in troubleshooting/debugging

General

  • Ability to work in an agile and dynamic environment, contributing to developing structure and frameworks
  • Prior experience working independently in a global team structure
  • Ability to build a cohesive and collaborative working relations across a diverse stakeholder group.
  • Valid Australian working rights: Permanent Resident or Australian Citizen

Desirable

  • Understanding of localization, robotics, and perception algorithms and methods
  • Experience with Novatel or Ublox GNSS sensors
  • Experience with modern C++ software development for deployment to an embedded Linux environment
