Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning division, is looking for an “Systems Engineer - Perception” to join a global engineering and manufacturing leader in tech that does cool stuff that matters. Hexagon A&P’s Perception Team is responsible for developing and deploying perception solutions that enable our internal and external customers to fully utilize their autonomous vehicle in the presence of known and unknown obstacles.  We are a collaborative team of driven engineers with a mission to simplify and advance vehicle technology to empower our customers to unleash autonomy; driving improved efficiency, productivity, quality, and safety.

 

As a Systems Engineer - Perception, you will work with the latest technology to solve challenging problems and develop system requirements and architectural designs. Your role involves all stages of the product development cycle, requiring collaboration with customers and a cross-functional team to ensure the design meets functional, quality, schedule, and cost targets.

 

Location: Hexagon is a global company with offices around the world. This position is based in Ottawa or Calgary, Canada. 

Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer - Perception, your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Drive technical aspects of projects in collaboration with the Chief Engineer, Project Manager and a team of subject matter experts
  • Provide Systems Engineering expertise through activities such as requirements management, system architectural design, systems integration, and the assessment of system verification compliance
  • Evaluate customer requirements and operational use cases to define and decompose system requirements to lower-level design requirements
  • Continuous evaluation of technical risk within the project and proactively work with the team to mitigate risk
  • Systems integration planning and coordination
  • Ensure verification compliance of the design with the system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing competing business requirements such as cost and time to market
  • Complete system and product analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes, best practices, and tools
  • Lead customer integration detailed execution and support in-field customer issues, as required.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • BSc. in Engineering, or equivalent
  • 5+ years’ experience in a high technology, product development environment
  • 2+ years in a Systems Engineering related role
  • Proven understanding and execution of traditional systems engineering principles
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be able to achieve Canadian Controlled Goods security status
  • Knowledge of perception sensors (camera, lidar, radar, etc.).

  • You thrive on seeing exciting projects through to completion while exercising proven planning, collaboration, technical leadership, and product development skills
  • Strong collaboration, facilitation and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and technical leadership skills
  • Knowledge of the product development life cycle and Systems Engineering V-model
  • Strong systems and software architectural design and analysis skills
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with systems thinking and attention to detail
  • Technical research abilities with the aptitude for sharing of information and expertise

Nice-to-Have:

  • Knowledge of computer vision and machine learning disciplines.
  • Prior experience with perception systems
  • Agriculture or Mining product launch experience
  • Verification and validation automation experience
  • Experience working with vehicles such as tractors and trucks for data collection and validation
  • Expertise with one or more requirements management tools, such as Polarion or DOORS
  • ISO 25119/19014 UL Certified Functional Safety & experience
