Overview

Hexagon A&P division is looking for a hands-on engineering tech. lead who can set the vision, lead, and grow a team of highly technical experts focused on deploying localization and perception technologies for mobile autonomous applications on hardened embedded production hardware. This team is responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting a core set of algorithms and tools used for configuration of GNSS-INS and perception sensors. The reference algorithms and tools created by this team will be used both by our internal application development teams as well as customers to be deployed in production autonomous systems.

This position is with Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division, a global technology leader, pioneering end-to-end solutions industry leaders rely on for assured positioning and autonomy on land, sea and air. Within the Autonomy & Positioning division your work will contribute to the operation of our brand(s) NovAtel, AutonomouStuff, Veripos and Antcom.

 

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based in Wangara, Western Australia, Australia.

Responsibilities

As a Localization Technical Lead, you will:

  • Develop technology for autonomous vehicles for mining haulage vehicles
  • Be the key engineer in developing, integrating, and delivering a full solution that seamlessly integrates Hexagon technologies
  • Coordinate and collaborate closely with local development teams and remote development teams in the United States and Canada
  • Train other engineers on using the Hexagon localization tools and technologies as well as following the processes
  • Take trips to customer mine site for on-vehicle deployment, testing, and tuning of our localization, perception and autonomy systems
  • Design tools for complex localization and perception vehicle systems
  • Participate in definition of processes which helps to make the development and deployment more efficient
  • Assist with autonomous vehicle applications and tools development using C++, Python, MATLAB, and Simulink
  • Assist with localization and perception algorithms integration into our proprietary autonomy stack
  • Contribute to customer and internal documentation and training material for various software applications
  • Create test instruction
  • Support field testing and troubleshooting of products by field technicians
  • Perform regular final checks of on-vehicle testing of software releases, analysis of vehicle control behavior
  • Maintain JIRA Projects and team workflows. Ensure project data and tasks are updated regularly.
  • Minimal international travel may be required

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field
  • Experience managing a small team or acting as a technical lead for small teams.
  • Experience in tools and methods which improves efficiency of technology deployment and sensor configuration

Nice to Have:

  • Direct experience leading teams of engineers
  • Masters degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or a related field
  • 5+ years experience working with localization technologies and algorithms, especially Novatel GNSS products
  • 5+ years experience with C++, MATLAB or Python programming
