Overview

Hexagon's Autonomous Solutions division is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our high-tech engineering and manufacturing company that is committed to customer service excellence and continuous improvement. In this role you will develop innovative manufacturing solutions for electronic enclosure products. You will work collaboratively with Product Development and Production by providing DfM input and manufacturing requirements, then designing Process Flow Diagrams, conducting PFMEAs, and creating Control Plans. You will also collaborate with Product Development in the development of custom parts by analyzing part manufacturability, understanding supplier capabilities, and developing inspection criteria. Finally, you will be responsible for designing, verifying, and validating assembly fixtures and jigs as part of a world-class manufacturing solution that exceeds customer expectations for Product Quality and Delivery. 

 

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based in Tucson, Arizona.

Responsibilities

As a Manufacturing Engineer, responsibilties include: 

  • Manufacturing Plans
    • Define the manufacturing strategy and conceptual process design for new products including identification of risks and an estimate of the development effort required to produce a manufacturing solution that meets the requirements for product quality and on-time delivery
    • Design for Manufacturing
    • Work collaboratively with Product Designers by providing input and analyzing new product assemblies and custom part designs to ensure they are highly manufacturable
  • Manufacturing Process Development (including Fixtures, work instructions)
    • Design manufacturing solutions that support Lean Production including Process Flow Diagrams, Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Plans for Every Part, and other PPAP deliverables as required (coordinating with different functional groups to implement)
    • Develop and validate work instructions, assembly fixtures, and other production aids
    • NPI builds
    • Create Manufacturing BOMS from Engineering BOMS in the ERP/PLM system
    • Lead Prototype and Pilot builds, write Pilot Build reports, host Pilot Build review meetings, and resolve/oversee issues with the process or product to ensure process targets are met 
  •  
  • Material Quality
    • Work collaboratively with the Supplier Quality team on supplier selection/audits to ensure supplier processes meet the required standards
    • Partner with Production, Quality and Supply Chain Management to support material quality and continuous improvement through the completion of First Article Inspections and problem-solving activities Production Support
    • Provide real-time support to Production by assisting with troubleshooting and resolving issues with the Manufacturing Process ane equipment and/or engaging with other groups as required (Product Design, Quality) 
    • Monitor performance of the manufacturing process, investigate deviations/opportunities to improve, and take appropriate action to resolve, including improving the manufacturing process or proposing product changes
    • Review/Validate the impact of Engineering Changes on production and implement required updates to the manufacturing process
  • New Manufacturing Capabilities
    • Research, select, and validate new manufacturing capabilities/equipment and deploy to production.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Degree or Diploma combined with 4+ years experience high tech manufacturing environment 
  • Formal training and experience on using root cause analysis and/or other problem-solving tools
  • Experience with using PFMEA and control plans
  • Experience in implementing manufacturing process improvement
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing
  • Excellent communication skills including report writing and driving actions to completion
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, 3D modelling…) 

Nice-to-Have:

  • Lean Bronze Certification or higher
  • Experience with CNC programming/fixturing
  • Experience with SAP and the creation of MBOMs

  • Enjoys debugging and problem solving, proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement
  • Able to define and analyze complex problems, collect data, develop solutions, and gain support from stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and presenting of reports and process documents
  • Comfortable working individually but know when to ask for help
