Overview

Hexagon's Autonomy & Positioning division, is looking for an Perception Engineering Intern to join a global engineering and manufacturing leader in tech for the period starting in May, 2025 for a 12-16 month term. The Perception Team at Hexagon Autonomy and Positioning is a worldwide team of passionate engineers with complementary technical background (sensing, computer vision, machine learning, software, system engineering). The Perception engineering group has the overall understanding of the entire system, from sensing to the end-user function. It integrates explicit and implicit needs into Perception system requirements, and implements innovative technical solutions toward efficient, cost-competitive and time to market product design. As an intern, you will have a dedicated mentor that will advise and guide you during your intership. You will collaborate with many experienced engineers too. The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based onsite in Ottawa, ON

Responsibilities

As a Perception System Engineering Intern, responsibilities include:

  • Contribute to implementing a Semi Automated Ground Truth System that combines multiple sensors (Camera, Lidar, GPS/IMU...), detection and localization algorithms.
  • Using Ground Truth System and Perception System, collect data to build the verification scene catalog
  • Interface and calibrate multiple sensors.
  • Evaluate and intregate together various detection algortithms.
  • Record data in real situations.
  • Develop user guides and training material on how to use the Ground Truth System from data collection to labeling/storage of data. 
  • Develop visual aids and instructions for data collection to support international data collection sites
  • Present your results with the perception team.

Qualifications

Must-Have:                      

  • Registered in the Engineering Internship/Co-op program and have completed at least your 2nd or 3rd year of studies by the start of your work term.
  • Enrolled in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechatronics at an accredited post secondary institution.
  • Available for a minimum 12 month work term.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • Knowledge of perception sensors (camera, lidar, radar, etc.).
  • Agile in at least one programming language (Ideally Python or C++).
  • Willingness to drive data collection vehicles such as UTVs, tractors, trucks, cars, etc.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A strong interest in science and engineering applications.
  • Curious and willing to learn.
  • Able to work in a collaborative team environment.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Knowledge of computer vision and machine learning disciplines.
