Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer to join our team responsible for designing autonomous site systems. An autonomous site system is comprised of multiple Hexagon products all successfully being upgraded and deployed to work together enabling site level autonomous operations. The Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer, reporting to the Director of Engineering for By-Wire and Autonomous Systems, is a strategic role responsible for acting as a local systems engineer in the Perth, Western Australia area. In this role you would work with the Perth and overseas based teams to provide subject matter expertise on product requirements. You would also be responsible for driving key field learnings and feedback into improved requirements during the field follow phases of the program.

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is located in the Perth, Western Australia area. This role specifically would report daily to the Wangara, Western Australia office location.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Autonomous Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Evaluate customer requirements and operational use cases to define and decompose system functional and performance requirements
  • Contibute to technical aspects of projects in collaboration with the Chief Engineer, Project Manager and a team of subject matter experts
  • Develop and design product soecification trade-off studies
  • Assess cross-domain dependencies, including the simulation and modelling of system components to allow data-driven decisions for optimal system performance
  • Continuously evaluate technical risk within the project and proactively working with the team to mitigate
  • Plan and coordinate systems integration 
  • Contribute to compliance of the design with the system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing competing business requirements such as cost and time to market
  • Complete system and product analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes and best practices

Qualifications

Must-Have:                       

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering related discipline or equivalent industry experience
  • Extensive experience in a high technology, product development environment
  • Experience in a Systems Engineering related role

Key Success Factors: 

  • Proven understanding and execution of traditional systems engineering principles
  • Well versed in developing and managing verifiable requirements for systems, hardware and software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expertise with one or more requirements management tools, such as Polarion or DOORS
  • Understanding of the product development life cycle and systems development V-model
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with systems thinking and attention to detail
  • Strong collaboration, facilitation and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and technical leadership skills
  • Technical research abilities with the aptitude for sharing of information and expertise

Nice-to-Have:

  • Familiarity with electronic actuation of vehicle-control systems, automotive-grade controllers in safety-critical applications
  • Experience with multi-sensor systems and technologies, including GNSS, IMU, Laser, LiDAR, RADAR, ultrasonic, vision/optical, etc.
  • Proven experience working with system integrators and OEMs
  • Proven application of reliability engineering principles, including FMEA, MTBF, and RCA
  • Product development experience for operation in harsh environmental environments, such as military, marine, agricultural, and automotive environments
  • Knowledge and experience in product/system integration, verification and validation
