Overview

Hexagon’s Autonomous Solution (AS) division is looking for another Systems Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, Machine Control, you will be responsible for developing the system requirements and architectural design for applications that require integration between vision-based perception systems and Control Systems in the agriculture machinery. This role demands your involvement in all stages of the product development cycle, where you will provide Systems Engineering expertise through activities such as requirements management, system architectural design, systems integration, and the assessment of system verification compliance. Your success is highly dependent upon collaboration with a cross-functional product development team to identify and mitigate risk, and to ensure that the design meets its functional, quality, schedule, and cost targets. You thrive on seeing exciting projects through to completion while exercising proven planning, collaboration, technical leadership, and product development skills. 

 

 

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based in Florianopolis, Brazil, and works closely with teams located in Calgary/Ottawa, Canada, and Morton, USA.

Responsibilities

As a Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for: 

  • Lead the technical aspects of projects in collaboration with the Chief Engineer, Project Manager, Product Manager and a team of subject matter experts 
  • Evaluate customer requirements and operational use cases to define and decompose system requirements to lower-level design requirements 
  • Develop system architectural designs, including conceptual, behavioral and structural views, critical component selection, interface descriptions, failure modes and effects analyses 
  • Continuous evaluation of technical risk within the project and proactively work with the team to mitigate risk 
  • Systems integration planning and coordination 
  • Assess cross-domain dependencies, including the simulation and modelling of system components to allow data-driven decisions for optimal system performance 
  • Ensure verification and validation compliance of the design with the stakeholder requirements, system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing competing business requirements such as cost and time to market 
  • Complete system and product analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties 
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes, best practices, and tools 

Qualifications

Must-Have: 

  • B.Sc. in Engineering, or equivalent 
  • 5+ years experience in a high technology, product development environment 
  • 2+ years in a Systems Engineering related role 
  • Proven understanding and execution of traditional systems engineering principles 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 

Key Success Factors: 

  • Strong collaboration, facilitation and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team 
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and technical leadership skills 
  • Knowledge of the product development life cycle and Systems Engineering V-model 
  • Strong systems and software architectural design and analysis skills 
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with systems thinking and attention to detail 
  • Technical research abilities with the aptitude for sharing of information and expertise 

Nice-to-Have: 

  • Previous agriculture/farm experience or working with precision agriculture technology 
  • Well versed in developing and managing verifiable requirements for systems, hardware, and software 
  • Expertise with one or more requirements management tools, such as Polarion or DOORS 
  • Experience in robust product design for harsh conditions, such as military, marine, aerospace, agricultural, and automotive environments 
  • Familiar with SysML 
  • Experience with architectural design tools, such as Enterprise Architect (EA) 
  • Experience in product/system integration, verification, and validation 
  • Application of reliability engineering principles, including FMEA, FTA, MTBF,  and RCA 
  • Familiar with GNSS receiver system architecture 
  • Familiar with Functional Safety standards such as ISO 26262, ISO 25119 and the ASPICE process reference model 
  • Experience working with system integrators and OEMs
