Application Engineer, Perception

We are hiring an Application Engineer, Perception to join our leading high-tech global engineering and manufacturing company. Working with the latest technology, you will apply your embedded software engineering expertise and problem solving and troubleshooting skills to understand and solve interesting and unique perception problems with our customers in multiple industries. You will utilize existing core perception software, as well as develop new software as necessary. International travel will be required when necessary to meet and learn about our customers and their challenges.

This position is with Hexagon’s Autonomy & Positioning division, a global technology leader, pioneering end-to-end solutions industry leaders rely on for assured positioning and autonomy on land, sea and air. Within the Autonomy & Positioning division your work will contribute to the operation of our brands NovAtel and AutonomouStuff.

The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is in Morton, IL or for the right person, it could be home-based with business travel required to Morton, IL occasionally on a monthly basis.

As our Application Engineer, Perception, you will:

• Develop and/or adapt computer vision and deep learning algorithms using C++ for autonomous mobility applications on hardened production grade hardware
• Interface with various perception sensors (cameras, GNSS, radar, lidar)
• Work with customers to understand their use case requirements
• Work with engineering managers as needed to approve technical content in quote language and statement of work documents
• Provide engineering level support to customers as needed to ensure a world class customer experience
• Travel to customer sites when required for initial hardware delivery, software updates, troubleshooting, etc. Travel expected to be less than 20%
• Regularly use productivity tools like Git, Jira, and Confluence
• Report project status to technical leadership

Must-Have:

• Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field
• 3-5 years industry experience
• Fully proficient in C++
• Experience writing software and solving challenges with advanced perception algorithms for real-world applications involving high levels of software engineering expertise
• Experience building and/or optimizing machine vision algorithms
• Experience developing for embedded Linux targets
• Valid passport and ability to travel overseas to work at customer sites

Nice-to-Have:

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field (infotainment)
• 2+ years of experience working with computer vision algorithms
• Direct experience with Nvidia Xavier chipset / Driveworks SDK
• Proven track record of deploying camera, radar, and/or lidar perception in autonomous vehicles
• Networking experience, including network configuration of host machines, routers, switches, wireless access points, etc.
• Comfortable with a variety of programming languages and frameworks (C, C++, Qt, Python, JavaScript, NodeJS, HTML, etc)
• ISP programming experience
• Sensor calibration experience
• Deep experience with embedded Linux targets, including flashing, configuring U-Boot, building Yocto images, etc
