  • Overview

    As a Mechanical Engineer/Designer, you will be working within the NovAtel Hardware Engineering team reporting to HW Lifecycle Manager (i.e. Sustaining). You will be involved in developing mechanical solutions to identified problems, analysis (thermal simulation, tolerance analysis, etc.), hands on mechanical testing (thermal, water ingress, shock, vibration, etc.), generating test reports, implementing solutions, feeding lessons learned into new designs.  As a key member of this team, you will adhere and contribute to NovAtel design best practices and design processes.

    • Develop mechanical solution adhering to IATF 16949 Processes
    • Drive the technical resolution to conclusion: hands on solution development including hardware design, test plan, test execution, test reports, documentation updates, and final implementation
    • Data set creation or modification (i.e. Bill of Material and mechanical drawings)
    • Creation of Engineering Change Orders
    • Drive Root Cause Analysis when required to determine most effective solution to the problem
    • Involve subject matter experts when required
    • Support Project Managers to deliver solutions
    • Provide lessons learned information into the development team to mitigate future issues
    • Work with Repair team to understand incoming customer returns and summarize findings for the HW team to be used as continuous design improvements



    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent four-year engineering degree
    • 5+ years relevant work experience
    • Experience with 3D modeling, plastics, sealing, vibration
    • Strong skills in Creo4 and CorelDraw or similar
    • Understanding and experience in Root Cause Analysis (8D)
    • Ability to work with hand tools
    • Proficient in multiple software programs (i.e. Microsoft Office, Minitab, etc.)
    • Collaborative, persuasive, successful at negotiation
    • Experience working with Multidisciplinary teams
