  • Overview

    As a Mechanical Engineer/Designer (6 month contract) in NovAtel's Mechanical Design Team, you will be working within the Research and Development organization to support mechanical product development from conception to product validation in a temporary fulltime position for approximately 6 months. With responsibility for developing enclosure designs, creating data sets and executing Development Verification Tests and generating test reports, this role includes operational and destructive testing with thermal, water ingress, shock and vibration to ensure NovAtel products and solutions are robust.  Part of this testing will require an understanding of the unit under test, its functionality and data collection.  You will also interface with external teams like: Electrical Engineering, Project Management, Product Test, Operations, Purchasing etc.  


    This position is located in the Hexagon Calgary Campus, which opened in September 2018. In this state-of-the-art location, we offer a casual and innovative work environment, including leading edge technology, on-site gymnasium, dedicated bike storage room, and underground parking.




    • Solid Modelling Design (supporting design for manufacturability)
    • Conduct Thermal Simulations and develop mitigation strategies
    • Develop mechinical solution adhering to IATF 16949 Processes
    • Data set creation (i.e. Bill of Material and drawing creation)
    • Develop and excecute System Verification Test Specifications with guidance from a Design Prime
    • Hands on approach to lab work.
    • Operate Test equipment such as a vibration table, data logger etc..
    • Collect and understand product operation data.
    • Post process test results and generate test reports.
    • Support brainstorming on new testing methodologies and test samples.



    • 8-15 years of hands on mechanical design & development experience.
    • Mechanical Technologist Diploma or greater. (Preferably BSc Mechanical Engineering).
    • Ability to work with hand tools and prototype as necessary.
    • Strong solid modelling skills, preferably with Creo4.
    • Strong skill set with Personal Computers, operating systems and software packages.
    • Possess excellent collaboration & communication skills and be very contributing from within a supportive team environment.

    • Mechanical Design Experience in developing high volume industrial/consumer products
    • Experience with FEA Simulation tools.
