    NovAtel Inc. (A Hexagon Positioning Intelligence Company) is looking for a tech-savvy and personable Application Engineer to help us drive autonomous vehicle development forward by supporting some of the biggest names in the automotive industry. In this exciting hands-on position, you will utilize your GNSS+INS expertise to ensure our customers’ success. Through the support of our Sales and Automotive Business Development teams, you will help to increase awareness of NovAtel’s revolutionary technologies, consult on positioning solutions for vehicle localization, and provide field and professional services to NovAtel’s worldwide customer base.


    While part of a growing Global Application Engineering team, this position will have a strong focus on supporting NovAtel’s (A Hexagon Positioning Intelligence Company) automotive and autonomous driving customers in the Bay area and will report into Hexagon PI's head office located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The team collaborates closely with Customers, Sales, Product Management, Project Management and Marketing to help ensure the cohesive and comprehensive delivery of products and materials. Our customers rely on NovAtel’s industry leading precision GNSS and INS technology when establishing their V2V/V2X and localization solutions.

    This position based in San Jose, California area or San Ramon area, may be a great fit if you have a passion for emerging technology, and desire to use your Geomatics or related engineering skills to solve real-world challenges and shape the future of autonomy.


    As our Application Engineer, Automotive you would be responsible for:

    • Providing front line product and application support on NovAtel Automotive related Hardware, Software, and related GNSS & INS topics to internal and external customers
    • Providing customer training, demonstrations, technical assistance, and technical sales support with some of the biggest names in the industry
    • Working closely with Sales / Automotive Business Development in accordance to the market needs and agreed priorities
    • Providing frequent support to automotive events and trade shows
    • Liaising with other departments regarding technical matters
    • Formulating and implementing procedures and plans for resolving problems
    • Performing software testing, verification, bug reports, and field trial coordination
    • Generating application notes for frequently asked questions and knowledge base



    • Degree in Geomatics, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering field
    • 5+ years experience in customer facing technical support
    • 2+ years of related industry experience
    • Valid driver’s license and vehicle
    • English fluency with excellent verbal and written skills
    • Ability and willingness to travel with frequent visits to customer sites in the Bay Area, with the potential for abroad

    • Experience with automotive specific application of GNSS/INS technology
    • Experience in GNSS and INS systems installation and/or troubleshooting
    • CAN communication and diagnostic experience
