  • Overview

    NovAtel is looking for an energetic accounting professional to join our Finance Team as Financial Analyst. This role is for someone who enjoys working independently, takes great pride in accurate work and will take initiative to ensure a job well done.  Reporting to the Supervisor, General Accounting, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for fixed asset tracking, administration and reporting, recording customer payments and invoices, and monthly GST returns filing.

    Responsibilities

    As Financial Analyst, you would be responsible for:

    • Fixed Asset administration including:
      • Creating Capital Acquisition Request (CAR) files & maintaining supporting documentation
      • Disposing of fixed assets no longer in use
      • Running monthly depreciation and ensuring accuracy before posting
      • Reconciliation of fixed asset sub-ledger to General Ledger monthly
      • Providing guidance to employees regarding fixed assets
      • Creating fixed asset continuity schedules (showing opening balances, fixed asset additions, disposals, proceeds of disposal, ending balances, etc.) to support internal reporting
    • Recording, posting and depositing all customer payments, including credit card payments
    • Investigating and resolving payment issues
    • Running and sending customer and inter-company invoices
    • Preparing and filing monthly GST returns
    • Posting Journal Vouchers to the ERP system
    • Initial set-up of accounts in the ERP system which could include customer, vendor and GL
    • Filing invoices, payments and Journal Vouchers
    • Preparing and distributing monthly department expense reports
    • Other general accounting tasks as required

    Qualifications

    Must-Have:

    • 2-year Accounting (or related Business) Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
    • Minimum 3 years' experience in an accounting role
    • Direct experience with fixed asset administration including fixed asset continuity schedules
    • High-level of proficiency in Excel 
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Attention to detail and high-level of accuracy in your work

    Nice-to-Have:

    • Accounts Receivable experience
    • Experience with GST returns
