Overview

NovAtel is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer within our OEM Systems group. In this role, you will be part of a highly-motivated and multi-disciplinary team that is responsible for developing a variety of innovative, high precision Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) solutions, including smart antennas, receivers and enclosures, and anti-jamming products.

The Senior Systems Engineer is involved in all stages of the product development cycle and provides systems-level expertise through activities such as requirements management, system decomposition, systems architecture and design, design trade studies, interface definition, as well as the planning, coordination and execution of system integration, verification and validation activities.

You will collaborate with a cross-functional product development team to identify and mitigate risks, and to ensure that the system design meets its functional, performance, quality, schedule and cost targets. In this role, you will be the primary technical interface between product/project management and the product development community.

Responsibilities

As Senior Systems Engineer you will be responsible to:

  • Evaluate customer requirements and operational needs to define system functional and performance requirements.
  • Establish system integration, verification and validation plans.
  • Apply a cross-functional and collaborative approach to the planning, design, development, and testing of complex GNSS system solutions.
  • Perform systems modeling (e.g. MBSE, SysML) to define system interfaces, requirements and behaviors.
  • Manage and ensure compliance of the design with the system requirements, standards and specifications while balancing decision making with competing business requirements such as cost and time to market.
  • Analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, usability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes and best practices.

Qualifications

Must-Have:

  • B.Sc. in Engineering with 10+ years of product development experience, including 3+ years in a dedicated systems engineering role
  • Experience with requirements analysis, system decomposition and requirements allocation
  • Ability and interest to think with a systems perspective
  • Knowledge and experience in product/system integration, verification and validation testing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be eligible for Controlled Goods, Reliability and Secret level security status

Key Success Factors:

  • Knowledge and understanding of traditional systems engineering principles
  • Strong technical research, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with requirements management methodologies and tools, such as Polarion or DOORS
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in Geomatics, GNSS products and applications
  • Experience in robust product development; e.g. operation in harsh environmental environments, such as military, marine, agricultural and automotive
  • Experience working with system integrators/OEMs
  • Experience in the application of reliability engineering principles (FMEA, RCA, MTBF, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and related tools, such as Enterprise Architect
