NovAtel is looking for an entry level to intermediate Mechanical Technologist or Engineer to perform Junior Mechanical Prime tasks. The long term vision is to grow this candidate into a Mechanical Prime. A Junior Prime will be expected to learn all of our simulation and design tools, verification equipment (i.e. HALT Chamber) and mechanical prime processes. Direct supervision and mentoring will be provided by the Team Lead and rest of the team.


As a member of our Mechanical Design Team, you will be working within the Research and Development organization executing tasks which will span the project phases from product requirements definition to production gate and sustaining support. The required skill set to develop will consist of enclosure design: thermal design/analysis, ruggedization for shock/vibe and water ingress as examples. As a prime, there is a strong emphasis on communication and collaboration. You will interface with internal teams like: Product Management, Project Management, Hardware, PCB, HW Verification, NPI, Operations and Data Management. In addition you will also be interacting with external partners and suppliers exploring new mechanical technologies and prototyping.


As a Mechanical Technologist/Engineer you would have the following responsibilities:

  • Work with System Engineers to review and help develop product requirements
  • Collaborate with all project Primes
  • Learn and excel at Simulation tools and Creo2 solid modelling
  • Learn design techniques (i.e. injection moulded plastics design, seal design) 
  • Manage development documentation (i.e. Drawings, BoMs, DVT Test reports, ECOs) 
  • Support Mechanical Brainstorming and Peer Reviews


Must Have:

  • 0-5 years of hands on mechanical technical development experience
  • Mechanical Technician diploma or greater
  • Ability to work with hand tools and prototype as necessary

Nice To Have:

  • Familiarity or experience with solid modelling 
  • Experience with Computer Aided Drafting techniques and protocols 
  • Experience with PCB manufacturing
