NovAtel is looking for the right person to lead our security programs to safeguard all our employees and assets and to ensure our success is maintained. 


The Security Specialist would be part of the Corporate Services team. NovAtel’s Corporate Services team manages all the company’s support services to ensure our employees have the best possible work environment. NovAtel is moving to a new building in 2018 and the Security Specialist would be an integral part of defining the security and risk management programs for this new location.


This is a new position within the company and we are open to innovative ideas and opinions on how to best implement the various security programs. Professional development is an important and supported program at NovAtel.


As the Security Specialist at NovAtel, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) security standard – NIST-800-171. This will include implementation, auditing and reporting on the compliance to the standard and ensuring completeness of all required documentation.
  • Managing physical security at our head office in Calgary. This will include management of the physical security zones within the buildings, administration of access rights to employees and sub contracted security alarm and patrol services. This will also include reviews and risk assessments of the security systems for continuous improvement.
  • Managing the company’s Business Continuity Plan. This will include reviewing the existing continuity plans and incorporating changes to reflect the company’s new building location and latest business models.             



  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a security specialist role
  • Post-secondary education in a technical field
  • Experience with building security systems management
  • Ability to perform security reviews, do risk planning and develop loss prevention strategies
  • Technical capabilities and experience in IT systems and working with IT teams
  • Ability to attain Reliability level security clearance within Canada

Key Success Factors:

  • Strong English language skills and ability to write and communicate security policies, processes and procedures
  • Strong understanding of security policies and procedures and how to implement them


  • Experience working in IT cybersecurity frameworks
  • Knowledge of NIST-800-171 security standard
  • Knowledge of ISO/IEC 27001 – Information Security Management Systems
  • Experience in auditing company procedures
