NovAtel is a leading edge supplier of GNSS technologies customers all over the world. In addition to supporting the GPS system, NovAtel receivers also support GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.  NovAtel also develops GNSS/INS technologies and antennas.  We offer a casual yet respectful and professional work environment outside of Calgary’s downtown core. We are a small haven of high tech in an oil and gas town.  We are looking for an enthusiastic COOP/internship student to support our applied research group.  This role offers you the opportunity to work with a multi-disciplinary team, including positioning, tracking, and signal processing experts along with hardware support.  The applied reserach group is tasked with working on the "what's next" problems of positioning and navigation, in pursuit of NovAtel's vision statement of "assured positioning - anywhere".  


  • Under the guidance of senior design staff:
    • Setup tests, collect data and assist in the analysis; this will include physical test setup and can expand to test automation
    • Collecting data in application specific environments, like a vehicle 
    • Develop graphing or other analysis tools
    • Write test reports



  • Registered in the Engineering Internship/Co-op program and have completed your 3rd year of studies by the start of your work term
  • Electrical, Geomatics or Computing Engineering student
  • Available for a minimum 12 month work term
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills
  • Drivers license

  • C++, Matlab, Perl, Python, or other scripting languages
  • Basic GNSS understanding
  • Hands on experience using lab equipment, like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and data logging programs
  • Hands on experience using GNSS receivers and data logging.
