NovAtel is a leading edge supplier of GNSS technologies customers all over the world. In addition to supporting the GPS system, NovAtel receivers also support GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.  We offer a casual yet respectful and professional work environment outside of Calgary’s downtown core. We are a small haven of high tech in an oil and gas town.  To support our focus on delivering high quality products, we are looking for an enthusiastic COOP/internship student to support our Core Cards group.  This role offers you the opportunity to work with the System Engineers on upcoming product design, as well as with the technical customer liaison to help troubleshoot issues existing customers are experiencing.  You will see a big picture view of the full life cycle of GNSS cards, from inception to design verification and through to field support.  RF design and performance is a significant component of the receiver design, and you will be heavily involved with it.  


  • Under the guidance of senior design staff:
    • Setup tests, collect data and assist in the analysis; this will include physical test setup and can expand to test automation
    • Develop graphing or other analysis tools
    • Write test reports



  • Registered in the Engineering Internship/Co-op program and have completed your 3rd year of studies by the start of your work term
  • Electrical, Geomatics or Computing Engineering student
  • Available for a minimum 12 month work term
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills

  • C++, Matlab, Perl, Python, or other scripting languages
  • Basic GNSS understanding
  • Hands on experience using lab equipment, like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and data logging programs
  • If you are a UofC student, Electrical Engineering 471: Introduction to Communication Systems and Networks is a useful course for you in this position.
