Overview

As a Systems Engineer within NovAtel's OEM Systems group, you will be working on a variety of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) related projects, including design and sustaining support of a variety of Smart Antennas, Enclosures, and GNSS Anti-jamming products. In this role, you will be involved in all stages of the product development cycle. You will provide systems expertise through product development activities, such as requirements management, system architecture design, design trade studies and assessment, as well as the planning, coordination and execution of system integration, verification and validation testing. This role requires collaboration with a cross-functional product development team to identify and mitigate risk, and to ensure that the design meets its functional, quality, schedule and cost targets.

 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate customer requirements and operational needs in order to define system functional and performance requirements, establish system integration, verification and validation plans, and ensure that regulatory and system certification requirements are met.
  • Apply a cross-functional and collaborative approach to the planning, design, development, and testing of complex GNSS system solutions.
  • Manage and ensure compliance with the required specifications while balancing decision making with competing business requirements such as product cost, project cost, and time to market.
  • Analyses for reliability, maintainability, testability, useability, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, affordability, safety, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties.
  • Assist with key customer liaison duties including development of technical proposals, presentation of design tradeoffs and system designs, and investigation of reported issues.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement and application of Systems Engineering processes and best practices.

Qualifications

Must-Have:                       

  • B.Sc. in Engineering with 10+ years of product development experience, plus 5+ years in a dedicated systems engineering role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of traditional systems engineering principles.
  • Well versed in developing and managing verifiable requirements for system, hardware and software.
  • Experience with requirements management methodologies and tools, such as Polarion or DOORS.
  • Knowledge and experience in product/system integration, verification and validation testing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to achieve Controlled Goods, Reliability and Secret level security status.

Nice-to-Have:

  • Experience in Geomatics, GNSS signal tracking, DSP algorithm development, Matlab, and scripting languages.
  • Substantial depth in communication and navigation systems is preferred.
  • Product development experience for operation in harsh environmental environments, such as military, marine, agricultural and automotive environments.
  • Experience working with system integrators/OEMs.
  • Experience in the application of reliability engineering principles (FMEA, MTBF, RCA, etc.).
